Post-translation modifications of histones modulate the accessibility and transcriptional competence of specific chromatin regions within the eukaryotic genome. Phosphorylation of histone H3 Threonine 11 (H3-T11ph) occurs throughout the cell cycle and is Chk1 dependent. It has been reported that DNA damage rapidly reduces H3-T11 phosphorylation.
